ABSTRACT

Objective:To develop a suitable solitude behavior scale for short version(SBS-S).Methods:A total of 2 484 valid data were collected from college students in Tianjin city and Shandong province.Based on the exploratory structural equation model(ESEM) and generalized partial credit model(GPCM) of item response theory, the SBS-S was developed.A total of 100 college students in Guizhou province were tested twice at intervals of two months to calculate the test-retest reliability of the SBS-S.R language Mplus 8.0 and SPSS 24.0 software were used for the data analysis. Results:According to the results of ESEM and GPCM model, 18 items were deleted. After deleting the above questions, 16 items (four items under each dimension) and four dimensions(positive solitude, eccentricity, social avoidance and loneliness) were retained. The coefficient of Cronbach's α was above 0.75. The results of confirmatory factor analysis showed that the structure model of the SBS-S was fitting well, and the index was ( χ2/ df=4.74, TLI=0.92, CFI= 0.95, SRMR =0.05, RMSEA=0.06). According to the results of SPSS, the test-retest reliability was above 0.60.Big-five persondlity, social support and self-esteem were regarded as criterion related validity. The results showed that positive solitude had positive correlations with extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, openness and self-esteem( r=0.07, 0.25, 0.15, 0.26, 0.09, all P<0.05). Eccentricity and social avoidance had negative correlations with extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness, social support and self-esteem( r=-0.25, -0.22, -0.45, -0.16, -0.36, all P<0.05; r=-0.26, -0.09, -0.06, -0.18, -0.36, all P<0.05), and had positive correlations with neuroticism( r=0.25, 0.32, both P<0.05). Loneliness had negative relation with extraversion, conscientiousness, agreeableness and self-esteem( r=-0.08, -0.11, -0.08, -0.33, all P<0.05), and had positive correlations with neuroticism( r=0.33, P<0.05). Conclusion:The SBS-S has good psychometric characteristics and can be used to evaluate the solitude behavior of individuals.

ABSTRACT

Creativity is a multidimensional construct. Several different approaches have been developed to measure creativity, including psychometric scales. The Runco Ideational Behavior Scale (RIBS) is one such measure of creative ideation. The primary purpose of this paper was to assess the 23 items of the RIBS in the context of the Thai language and examine scale reliability and validity. Participants, consisting of 508 undergraduate students selected from five Thai public universities, were selected through a convenience sampling approach involving both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Results suggested that the Thai version of the RIBS presented a valid measure to a certain extent. Factor analysis of the empirical data indicated a two-dimensional structure. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) results confirmed that the two-factor construct demonstrated a better fit with improved psychometric characteristics. Six items were eliminated from the Thai RIBS version inventory: five items during explanatory factor analysis (EFA) and one during the CFA process. Results will contribute to ascertaining that the Thai version of the RIBS instrument can be used as a self-assessment tool for measuring students' creative ideation. Implications and limitations of this research are discussed with suggestions for future studies. (AU)

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: The neuroregenerative drug Cerebrolysin has demonstrated efficacy in improving cognition in adults with stroke and Alzheimer's disease. The aim of this study was to determine the efficacy and safety of Cerebrolysin in the treatment of communication defects in infants with severe perinatal brain insult. METHODS: A randomized placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted in which 158 infants (age 6-21 months) with communication defects due to severe perinatal brain insult were enrolled; 120 infants completed the study. The Cerebrolysin group (n=60) received twice-weekly Cerebrolysin injections of 0.1 mL/kg body weight for 5 weeks (total of ten injections). The placebo group (n=60) received the same amount and number of normal saline injections. RESULTS: The baseline Communication and Symbolic-Behavior-Scale-Developmental Profile scores were comparable between the two groups. After 3 months, the placebo group exhibited improvements in the social (p<0.01) and speech composite (p=0.02) scores, with 10% and 1.5% increases from baseline, respectively. The scores of the Cerebrolysin group changed from concern to no concern, with increases of 65.44%, 45.54%, 358.06%, and 96.00% from baseline in the social (p<0.001), speech (p<0.001), symbolic (p<0.001), and total (p<0.001) scores. CONCLUSIONS: Cerebrolysin dramatically improved infants' communication especially symbolic behavior which positively affected social interaction. These findings suggest that cerebrolysin may be an effective and feasible way equivalent to stem cell therapy.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this research was to adapt the Sun Protection Behavior Scale (SPBS) to Turkish and to perform validity and reliability analyses. METHODS: The scale was administered to a total of 900 adolescents, the retest to 91 adolescents. The construct validity of the scale was evaluated using exploratory (EFA) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). The EFA and CFA were applied to sample groups of 449 and 451 people, respectively. RESULTS: The Cronbach alpha coefficients for the Turkish form of the SPBS (alpha = .74) and its sunscreen (alpha = .88) and hat use (alpha = .70) subscales were found to be > or =.70 while the sun avoidance subscale was calculated to be .67. The item-total score correlation between the scale and its subscales was > or =.26 and the test-retest correlations were found to be > or =.51. The CFA results verified the 8-item, 3-factor Turkish version of the SPBS. The confirmatory factor loadings for the scale were .45-.80 for sun avoidance, .72-.93 for sunscreen use, and .66-.83 for hat use. In particular, SPBS and sunscreen use (p < .001) exhibited significantly high mean scores among girls and economically better backgrounds (p = .007, p < .001, respectively). In addition, SPBS (p = .004) and hat use (p < .001) revealed that the mean scores were significantly high in younger adolescents. CONCLUSIONS: The SPBS was found to be valid and reliable and its psychometric characteristics acceptable. The scale can be used to measure the behavior of Turkish adolescent populations with respect to sun protection.
